What You Will Make
Each guest builds a mug from clay slabs, then gives the ghost its own character with arms, a handle, facial features and all the little details that make it yours. Go sweet and sleepy, dramatic and spooky, a little goofy or somewhere completely unexpected. The result is a perfectly spooky little vessel for coffee, cider, tea, hot chocolate or whatever you will be sipping as the weather starts to cool down.
Along the way you learn real pottery skills: beginner friendly slab-building to construct the mug, scoring and slipping to join pieces so they hold through the kiln, and how shape, texture and decorative detail change the look of a piece. Then you choose from the studio glazes to finish it.
Why Groups Love It
Clay is a great equalizer. No pottery experience is needed, the instructor walks everyone through the process step by step, and there is still plenty of room to play and experiment, so a mixed group of first-timers and returning makers all end up with something they are proud of. That balance makes it one of the easiest crafty team building activities to plan for the season.
With classes capped at a comfortable size, it is a natural fit for team building activities for small groups, friends looking for a date night or a cozy fall outing, and solo makers who want a fun seasonal project. Teams that would rather make something together than sit through another dinner will find it a relaxed form of creative team building.
About the Studio
The studio is a bright and welcoming pottery space in San Francisco where creativity and community come together. Its founder grew up in her mom's cozy pottery studio, fell in love with clay early on and now shares her love of clay through hands-on workshops and memberships for all skill levels. With a background in teaching and a love of playful, colorful ceramics, she has built a fun, relaxed space where anyone can enjoy working with clay. The studio identifies as women-owned.
Beyond seasonal projects like this one, the studio runs one-night hand-building workshops throughout the year, a four-week introduction to hand-building, pottery date nights, memberships and private events, including team-building sessions hosted at the studio.
