What You Will Make
This is an open project. Each guest decides what to build, a mug, a bowl or a custom piece of their own design, and the instructors help turn the idea into a sturdy form. You learn handbuilding, how to score and slip pieces so they hold together through the kiln, and how to finish with surface decoration.
Reviewers mention plenty of time to work: one guest made a single mug while others nearby made several mugs, bowls and other pieces. Once your work is shaped you choose a glaze and the studio handles the rest, and in about four weeks your finished, microwave-safe creation is ready to take home and show off.
The instructors keep things friendly and funny and show how to score and slip each join, so the pieces hold together through the kiln. It is a laid-back, social way to try ceramics for the first time or to get back into clay after a long break.
Why It Works for Groups
Because everyone picks their own project, the workshop suits mixed groups well: the cautious make a simple bowl, the ambitious build a set, and nobody is left behind. It is a laid-back way to dive into clay, and one reviewer described a team having a blast in a room filled with laughter.
That relaxed energy makes it a natural pick among team building workshops and after work team building ideas. With 6 to 11 guests per private session, it is one of the most flexible team building activities for small groups, a dependable choice among fun indoor team building activities, and an easy introduction to creative team building for people who have never tried pottery.
About the Studio
This bright, welcoming pottery space in the Inner Richmond is women-owned and was opened in 2023 by a ceramic artist and educator who grew up in her mom's pottery studio. A former elementary school teacher, she built the studio so that people could experience clay in a more approachable way, make something with their hands and step away from the noise for an evening.
Alongside public workshops the studio offers memberships, kids pottery parties and private group events. Private events have a 6-guest minimum, and the studio can host groups of up to about 22 guests with the right staffing, so it suits everything from a small team to a full department.
