How the Workshop Runs
The class starts with the essentials. Your instructor shows the group how to thread the machine, how to cut fabric accurately and how to read and follow a simple pattern, making sure everyone feels comfortable with each part of the process before moving on. Once you have practiced the basics, you put them together on a real project, working at your own pace while the teachers walk the room to explain steps, help with tricky seams and keep the group on track. By the end of the session you have a finished piece to show off and the confidence to start sewing on your own.
Past guests describe the class as fast paced but very exciting. One guest went from little skill to designing and constructing a lined tote bag, something they did not know they were capable of, and others mention teachers who are patient, attentive and great at showing and explaining each step.
Why It Works for Groups
Sewing asks for patience, focus and a little problem solving, and it rewards everyone with something tangible. Colleagues and friends help each other line up fabric, cheer when a seam comes out straight and compare finished pieces at the end. With a cap of 14 guests, it is one of the most focused team building activities for small groups, and the step-by-step format means nobody is left behind.
It also works as one of the more hands on team building activities for teams that sit at screens all day, and as a thoughtful birthday or bachelorette party for friends who want to learn a real skill together. As creative team building activities go, few end with a useful item each person made with their own hands, and as indoor team building activities for small groups it runs comfortably in any season.
About Your Host
The studio is a women-owned sewing lab in the Inner Sunset, founded in 2020 by a designer originally from Chile who holds a degree in Fashion Design and Pattern Making. She spent more than ten years as managing director and designer of her family's clothing business before moving to the United States, and she now leads the studio as founder and lead teacher. The lab works as a small learning hub where young people, families and adults explore how clothing is made, from materials to finished pieces, while practicing machine sewing, textile recycling and upcycling.
The studio holds a 4.5-star rating across 15 reviews. Guests describe a warm welcome for beginners and experienced sewists alike, instructors who are patient and encouraging, and projects that leave people wanting to come back for more classes. Her main interest is teaching the value of garments: how they are made, why they matter and how thoughtful choices can reduce waste.
