What You Will Make
Each guest designs a framed Christmas tree holiday decoration from salvaged sparkle. You choose the pieces that catch your eye, from old brooches and earrings to stray beads and chains, then lay them out in the shape of a tree, play with color and shine, and build up the design until it feels finished. No two trees ever look alike, because no two piles of vintage jewelry are the same.
Guests are also welcome to bring their own baubles or broken jewelry to include in the design. A single earring from a grandmother, a charm from a childhood bracelet or a necklace that snapped years ago can become the star at the top of the tree, which makes the finished piece a meaningful keepsake or gift.
Why It Works for Groups
This is one of the more relaxed crafty team building activities for the season. There is no wrong answer and no skill hurdle, so a whole department starts on equal footing, and the treasure hunt through the bead trays gets people talking right away. With room for up to 8 guests per class, it suits team building activities for small groups, close friends and family gatherings.
It is also an easy fit for eco-conscious creators. Instead of buying new ornaments, everyone turns waste into wonder, giving damaged and forgotten jewelry a second life as DIY Christmas decor. That message lands well with teams looking for holiday team building activities that feel thoughtful rather than generic.
About the Studio
The host is a creative jewelry studio where complete beginners make their own pieces with hands-on support from experienced silversmiths. Its regular sessions guide guests through designing and making rings, pendants, bracelets and earrings in sterling silver or gold fill, choosing from a large collection of gemstones, connectors and charms and learning basic soldering along the way.
The studio identifies as women-owned and has two Bay Area locations, in Sausalito and in Berkeley, both run with the same welcoming, beginner friendly approach.

A Fit for Many Occasions
Beyond office celebrations, the workshop makes a cheerful holiday outing for friends, a birthday or milestone celebration with a creative twist, or a small offsite where a team wants to make something together rather than sit through another dinner. Because each tree is framed and ready to hang, guests leave with decor they will bring out every Christmas, and a story behind every piece on it.
