Turn a celebration into one of the most memorable creative team bonding activities in the Bay Area: a private pottery party on the wheel in a bright, beginner-focused East Bay studio. Your group spends three hours learning basic wheel throwing together, and every guest goes home with two to three food-safe, glazed ceramic pieces made with their own hands.
The private party is priced at $175 per guest for groups of 5 to 6 guests. It is built for small gatherings such as birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette weekends, milestones, anniversaries and field trips for small teams. No experience is needed; the studio specializes in first-timers and keeps classes small so everyone gets real attention.

What's Included
- Three hours of beginner instruction on the potter's wheel for your private group
- Two to three throws on the wheel for each guest, making bowls, cups and other forms
- Clay, tools, aprons and studio equipment for the whole session
- Firing and glazing of your work by the studio
- Two to three food-safe, glazed ceramic pieces per guest, shipped to you once they are out of the kiln
- Hours of relaxation and fun in a bright, airy art studio
How the Party Flows
After a warm welcome, your instructor walks the group through the basics: centering the clay, opening it up and pulling the walls into a simple form. Each person then throws on the wheel two or three times, which gives everyone room to try, wobble, laugh and try again. The studio fires and glazes the finished work, so the pieces that arrive later are beautiful and functional, ready for coffee, snacks or a shelf at home.
When the throwing is done, your group can wind down together. You are welcome to bring your own snacks, cake or beverages to enjoy and bask in the afterglow of time on the wheel, which makes it easy to fold a birthday toast or a small celebration into the afternoon.
Why Groups Love It
Clay puts everyone on the same level. Nobody arrives as an expert, the wheel is forgiving of mistakes, and the shared surprise of seeing a bowl take shape gets people talking. That makes this one of the more fun team bonding activities for friends, families and coworkers alike. With a cap of six guests, it also sits squarely among team building activities for small groups: the instructor can help each person at the wheel rather than lecturing from the front of the room.
Planners hunting for team building party ideas will find it covers both sides at once, a creative skill and a celebration. In the cooler months it doubles as one of the more hands-on holiday team building activities for a small team or a family gathering, and each guest leaves with a keepsake that outlasts the party.
About the Studio and Your Instructor
The host is a women-owned art classroom and pottery studio in the East Bay that specializes in beginners, with a focus on body awareness, mindfulness and having fun. It started in 2022 as a clay classroom in the owner's garage, grew into a sunny loft in North Oakland, and in July 2026 expanded into an art space in West Berkeley with a pottery studio, a craft area and a wood shop, a short walk from the Aquatic Park.
The owner-operator is a lifelong art educator and audio storyteller who has been captivated by clay in motion since age 13 and has worked with thousands of students since opening the studio. Their teaching style balances support with encouragement to experiment, and it draws on trauma-aware facilitation, neuroscience and open communication. The classroom is introvert-approved and playfully social, curious about different learning styles, and set to a playlist that is both calming and energizing.
Good to Know
- Beginner friendly; no experience is required
- Suitable for adults and kids aged 4 and up; an adult must accompany any attending kids and needs their own ticket
- Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting clay on, such as stretchy pants
- Clay can be hard to remove from jewelry, and trimming your nails beforehand helps; tools are available if you keep your nails long
- Let the studio know about any injuries, limitations or chronic pain, and hydrate and eat well the day of your session
- Parking: a free public lot sits right off the exit ramp, the Aquatic Park half a block away has ample parking, and street parking on the block is rare, so please do not use the private lot shared with neighboring tenants
