How the Workshop Runs
The session starts with an age-appropriate introduction to scent: how fragrances are grouped and how the pyramid of top, middle and base notes fits together. Kids then smell and compare oils, write their recipe on the worksheet and blend a scent that is all their own. Next they choose a vessel, add their scent to the skin-safe wax and pour their candle while learning simple candle safety. Finally, each child names the candle and adds a custom label. Candles can be picked up 1 hour after completion or within 7 days, which makes it easy to plan lunch or a walk nearby while they set.
What Kids Learn
Kids come away knowing how scents are grouped, how top, middle and base notes work together and how to blend with a plan rather than at random. They also pick up basic candle safety they can use at home. The host is a women-owned fragrance studio and shop in the Elmwood neighborhood of Berkeley. Its founder, a Master Blender, has owned the business since 2007 and opened the Berkeley storefront in May 2023. It began as small batches of clean, skin-safe blends made in a home kitchen and grew into a full retail space and workshop hub, where everything is handcrafted in small batches from more than 900 perfume and essential oils. She and her team have taught many classes, private parties and corporate events, and they love watching guests of all ages light up as they learn something new.
