What's Included
- A two hour guided monoprinting workshop at your chosen venue
- Gelli printing plates and water-soluble block inks
- Acrylic craft paints, brayers, brushes and stencils to work with
- Step-by-step instruction in a very forgiving printmaking process
- Aprons for up to six guests
- A series of original monoprints for every guest to take home
What You Will Make
The Gelli printing plate is made of a gel-like substance with a sensitive surface that invites endless experimentation and reuse. Guests roll out ink and paint with brayers, layer colors with brushes and stencils, and press found flat objects into the plate to build depth and texture, pulling one-of-a-kind monoprints along the way.
Because each pull is a little different, there is no wrong result, which takes the pressure off and keeps the room relaxed. Past guests describe a great range of colors and materials and walking away with a bunch of finished pieces, and they credit the instructor's calm, helpful style with helping everyone settle in and enjoy the process.
Why It Works for Groups
The workshop was built for parties and workplace team building. It is one of the more creative team bonding activities for adults who want to relax, bond and try a new medium together, and guests naturally trade techniques and admire each other's results. With 4 to 8 guests per private workshop, it is an easy fit among team building activities for small groups.
Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or fostering team connection, the session sparks creativity and collaboration in a supportive setting. It suits a team outing, a birthday, a bachelorette party or a seasonal celebration, and among hands on team building activities it is one where everyone goes home with art they made themselves.
About Your Instructor
Your instructor is the founder of a women-owned, mission-driven arts organization that blends education, consultation and artistry, and a multimedia artist who works in printmaking, painting, fiber arts and sculpture. Her own work layers natural elements with self-created imagery to explore Afro-Indigenous history and traditional art-making practices. As an arts educator she uses an inquiry-based model rooted in process based learning, built on three principles of self-exploration, modeling and guiding, which creates a safe environment for experimentation, risk taking, collaboration and community building. The organization brings classes, workshops and community events to schools, libraries, festivals and other public spaces across the Bay Area.
