About the Workshop
Guests work with colored glass, shaping and arranging it to bring each design to life. The instructor supports everyone every step of the way, so nobody needs experience with glass. Most people pick up the techniques quickly, and watching the pieces come together is creative and satisfying.
The finished stakes are made to adorn a garden or a potted plant. They add a seasonal touch to an outdoor space or a desk plant, and they serve as a reminder of the fun and creativity of the workshop. Two stakes per guest also means one to keep and one to give, and because the designs are seasonal, they make a cheerful gift to bring to a family gathering or to leave on a colleague's desk.
Why It Works for Groups
For christmas team building, a seasonal make-and-take workshop gives people a shared project and a handmade gift at the same time. The 90-minute format fits easily into a workday afternoon, and it is a natural pick for office holiday team building activities where you want everyone involved rather than watching. With a minimum of 10 guests and room for up to 40, it is designed as one of the large group team building activities for a full team or department.
The workshop suits a team building activity, a Christmas party, a birthday or a bachelorette party. It is one of the more hands on team building activities for the season, and among creative team building ideas it is easy for beginners, since all of the glass and tools are ready when you arrive.
About the Studio
The studio is a woman-owned, artist-run art space in the Lower Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, founded by working artists and run by a two-woman team. Alongside exhibitions of emerging and mid-career artists, it hosts art classes and workshops and offers studio space for rent. The team sees art as a vehicle for social change and for bringing creative communities together.
Classes and workshops are organized by its co-director, a San Francisco native who has studied art in Italy, China and California. Her murals and public art commissions appear throughout the city, and her ceramic sculptures are in private collections.
What Past Groups Say
A company that booked a team ceramics workshop here called it a great team-building activity, with an instructor who was kind, patient and encouraging, clear instructions and plenty of room to be creative without feeling rushed. Another company that came for a team building workshop said the instructor was hands-on when needed while leaving everyone free to do their own thing, and noted that the space is beautiful and roomy.
