The class is hands-on from start to finish. You work with fresh ingredients and traditional Indian spices and discover the art of balancing savory, spicy and tangy flavors the way Mumbai street vendors do. By the end of the session you have confidence in the kitchen and a spread of street food that is perfect for impressing friends at your next gathering.
Why It Works for Groups
Street food is made to be shared, which makes this one of the most social takes on cooking class team building. One pair fries the vadas, another rolls the Frankie wraps, someone blends the lassi and the chutneys come together at the end. With 2 to 12 guests per private class, it scales from a couple's night to a full team and works as one of the most flexible team building activities for small groups.
The class suits individuals and couples as well as a date, a team outing, a Christmas party, a birthday or a bachelorette party, and it makes a unique gift for couples. Among holiday team building activities, a Bollywood-themed street food night brings real energy to the season. An optional spice box can be added for $65.
About Your Host
The host is a women-owned Indian cooking school run by a home cook and teacher who grew up between two food traditions. Her father's side comes from Lucknow, a city whose cooking is refined and layered, and her mother's side from Bihar, where the food is earthy and bold. After moving to the United States she started cooking for friends, then for their friends, and those shared meals around her kitchen table grew into the school. She has taught as a guest instructor at several respected Bay Area culinary schools and also caters private events on special request.
Classes take place in her home kitchen in San Francisco and are intimate by design, never more than 12 people. The menus draw on dishes from across India's thirty states, and the stories behind each dish are as much a part of the class as the cooking. Guests regularly mention a beautiful, well-appointed kitchen, a warm and knowledgeable host and how much they learned about spices.
