Three Vintages, One Vineyard
The heart of this experience is a rare side-by-side tasting of three older vintages of the winery's single-vineyard Stags Leap District Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon. The elegant 2012, the rich and concentrated 2015 and the beautifully balanced 2018 are all 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the same vineyard, so the differences come from the growing season and from time in bottle. Few guests ever get to compare three mature bottlings of the same wine at one sitting, which is what makes the session memorable.
Tasting them together offers a fascinating perspective on how structure, aromatics and texture evolve with age. The tasting takes place among the very vines that produced these wines, after a private tour of the production facility and caves and a barrel sample of a vintage still to come.
Why It Works for Groups
As wine team building, a vertical-style comparison gives a group a shared puzzle to talk through: which vintage do you prefer, and why? It is ideal for Cabernet collectors and enthusiasts interested in vintage variation and bottle age, and a thoughtful choice among team retreat activities for a leadership team or a group of partners.
With a cap of 8, it is also one of the more focused team building activities for small groups, and it makes a memorable gift experience for an anniversary, a retirement-year milestone or a client the team wants to thank.
About the Winery

The family farms every vine itself, and two of its vineyards, in the Stags Leap District and Calistoga, are certified organic. Wine caves run beneath the estate, and small-lot Cabernet Sauvignon is the focus of the winemaking. The winery is open daily from 10 AM to 4 PM by prior reservation.
