A private cave tour followed by a seated tasting is a classic piece of wine team building, and this one goes behind the scenes at a family-owned winery in the Stags Leap District, in the heart of Napa Valley and within easy reach of the Bay Area. Groups of up to 8 guests tour the production facility and wine caves, taste a Cabernet straight from the barrel, then sit down for three wines and a cheese and charcuterie plate.
The private experience runs 90 minutes and is priced at $125 per guest.

The Tour and Tasting
Your visit starts with a guided tour of the production facility and wine caves, where you see how small-lot Cabernet Sauvignon moves from vineyard to barrel to bottle. Along the way, the group tastes an upcoming vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon directly from French oak barrel, a rare look at a wine before it is finished. Questions are welcome throughout, and your guide walks the group through each step of the journey from vineyard to barrel to bottle.
After the tour, everyone settles into a seated tasting. Each guest begins with a choice of Carneros Chardonnay, Carneros Elizabeth Pinot Noir or Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, then moves to the Stags Leap District Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon and finishes with a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Calistoga estate. The flight traces Napa Valley from its cool southern reaches to the volcanic soils of the north.
Why Small Groups Love It
The cave tour gives the group something to explore together, and the seated tasting gives everyone time to talk. That mix makes it one of the better team building outings for small groups of up to 8: a project team, a group of founders, a few colleagues visiting from out of town or a family celebrating a milestone.
It works well as one of several team bonding outings on a wine country retreat, and it belongs on any list of team building outing ideas for people who want to learn about winemaking and barrel aging and taste a range of wines and vineyards in one visit.
About the Winery
The host is a second-generation, family-owned winery in the Stags Leap District, in the heart of Napa Valley. The family farms every vine itself, and two of its vineyards, in the Stags Leap District and Calistoga, are certified organic. Wine caves run beneath the estate, and small-lot Cabernet Sauvignon is the focus of the winemaking. The winery is open daily from 10 AM to 4 PM by prior reservation.
