Overview

This elopement officiant package is for couples marrying with a small witness party rather than a full guest list, from Salinas and Monterey County, California out to the coast at Big Sur.

What an Elopement Here Actually Looks Like

Short, warm, and specific to the two of you. A typical elopement ceremony runs under thirty minutes and holds a full shape inside that time: greeting, story, vows, ring exchange, declaration of marriage. Couples have married in a backyard, at sunrise on the beach, in a redwood grove, in a quiet courthouse moment, on a restaurant patio, and at a hidden overlook up the coast. The setting changes constantly. The structure holds.

The Script Starts With a Conversation

It begins with an initial visit, in person or by video, covering how you met, what you admire in each other, and the tone you want the ceremony to carry. That conversation becomes the spine of a script written from scratch, never assembled from a template. Between the visit and the ceremony there is a short homework assignment, described by the officiant as the most important part of the ceremony, and that description is fair: the homework is where the material that makes the script yours actually comes from. Couples looking for a non religious wedding officiant get exactly the same from-scratch process, which is what keeps a secular elopement from sounding like a civil reading pulled off a shelf.

Included in the Booking

  • An initial getting to know you visit, in person or by video
  • A short homework assignment that deepens the ceremony script
  • A custom ceremony script written only for you, with no templates used
  • Vows guidance and writing support if you want to write your own
  • Unlimited email and phone contact leading up to the day
  • On-site coordination with your planner, photographer, or venue contact ahead of the ceremony
  • Officiating the ceremony itself, typically under thirty minutes

Travel Along the Central Coast

Travel within Monterey County is included in the package price. Ceremonies farther along the Central Coast are welcomed with a travel adjustment confirmed in writing at the initial visit, before the booking is settled. There are no broad travel restrictions attached to this package: send the location along with the date, and the logistics get worked out with you rather than around you.

Ceremony Types Welcomed

Non-religious and civil ceremonies, civil unions, commitment ceremonies, and vow renewals are all performed under this package, and faith-based or interfaith elopements are equally welcome, drawn from decades of pastoral experience. The officiant is ordained through a religious institution and legally authorized to marry couples in California. The wedding ceremony officiant writing your script treats a secular elopement and a faith-based one as the same craft problem: find the words that belong to these two people and say them well.

Lead Time, Including Late Bookings

Most couples book the initial visit sixty to ninety days ahead of the elopement date, which gives the homework and the script time to come together properly. Later bookings are accommodated when the calendar allows. Send the date and availability is usually confirmed within a day.

Off Season Dates

A seasonal reduction runs from November through February for couples eloping in the quieter months. Mention your date at the initial visit if it falls inside that window and the discount is applied to the contract rather than left for you to ask about later.

Deposit, Dates and the Marriage License

A non-refundable booking deposit is collected at contract signing to confirm the date and reserve the officiant, with an associate officiant named in the contract as the backup. The ceremony date and time are locked once the deposit clears, and date changes inside thirty days of the event are accommodated subject to availability and may carry a rescheduling adjustment. Cancellations received more than sixty days before the ceremony are eligible to apply the deposit to a rescheduled date within twelve months when availability allows. Obtaining a valid California marriage license before the ceremony is the couple's responsibility; the officiant signs it on the day and submits it to the county on the couple's behalf. Rehearsal attendance the day before is offered as a paid add on when the ceremony location is available, and is arranged at the initial visit.

Why Couples Choose an Elopement Over a Full Ceremony

Some want the day to be private. Some want the coast rather than a room. Some want to marry without the production that a guest list brings with it. This wedding officiant works to the same standard of script craft either way, so choosing a small witness party costs you nothing in how personal the ceremony ends up being.
