What You Will Make
You will learn step by step how to make a succulent pumpkin decoration, building up the top of a faux pumpkin with succulents and then working in preserved greenery, flowers, faux berries and other seasonally themed elements. The instructor answers questions throughout and helps each guest balance color and texture.
One of the nicest things about this piece is what happens after the season. You can save the decorative elements and replant the succulents in a pot or outside, so the project keeps giving long after the pumpkin goes back into storage.
Why Groups Enjoy It
Work groups can get together for a fun, hands-on hour in the studio, surrounded by warm fall colors. It is beginner friendly and unhurried, which makes it one of the more welcoming crafty team building activities for coworkers who have never made anything with plants.
The faux pumpkin base means there is no carving involved, and the finished piece holds its shape on a table, mantel or front step for the whole season. Each guest can push the palette toward warm oranges and reds or keep it soft and neutral.
The flexible group size suits team building activities for small groups as well as larger departments, and the timing makes it a natural fit among thanksgiving team building activities ahead of the holiday or a cozy fall outing with friends.
Occasions This Fits
- Fall and Thanksgiving team outings
- Craft afternoons with friends or family
- Birthday and bachelorette parties
- Date ideas for couples
- Gift experiences for mom, for her or for couples
About the Studio
The class is hosted by a women-owned living-art studio whose name comes from the Greek word for flower. The founder was inspired by the wall gardens she admired during her years living in Paris, and on returning to the United States she turned that passion for green art into a design studio that creates planters, terrariums and zen gardens as unique as nature itself. The studio uses a wide assortment of easy-care plants and now has locations in New York and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Its teachers have hosted plant, terrarium and floral workshops for corporate groups, both in person and over video, and across all of its classes the studio holds a 4.9 average from 214 guest reviews.
Tips for Organizers
Pricing is per guest, so the total scales with your final headcount and every guest goes home with their own finished piece. Groups that would rather stay at the office can ask about having the instructor travel to them within about 30 miles of the studio, with the travel fee billed separately after the booking is paid. The studio also runs virtual versions of many of its workshops, with kits shipped to remote guests for an added shipping charge per kit.
