Which Bay Area wineries rent space for events?

Five wineries here rent space for private events: one each in San Francisco, San Carlos and Livermore, and two in Northwest Berkeley. Two breweries, in San Carlos and San Rafael, round out the list. All seven are request to book: the host confirms your date first. For rooms beyond wineries and breweries, compare event venues in San Francisco and event venues in Berkeley.

What do winery venues cost per hour in the Bay Area?

Bay Area winery and brewery venues here run $100.00/hour to $1750.00/hour across the five hourly-priced listings, with a median of $580.00/hour. The two Berkeley wineries charge a setup fee plus an hourly rate, so the median excludes them.

Minimums matter too: the San Francisco winery, the San Carlos winery and the Livermore winery start at 4 hours; the other four start at 3.

Is wine service included at these venues?

The San Francisco Industrial Chic Winery is the only package that lists drinks among its inclusions: catering services, drinks, a bar and mixed cocktails. The Livermore winery lists dedicated wine servers as available for events, the Berkeley natural light winery says it offers wine service, and the San Rafael brewery describes food and drink options (beer and wine) with servers against a $300 minimum spend, so confirm what each hourly rate covers. The San Carlos winery, the San Carlos brewery (which adds a built-in bar) and the 1,400 sq ft Berkeley winery name no drinks service, so confirm who pours. To hire drinks separately, EIM lists bar services and caterers.

Which Bay Area brewery event spaces host 200+ guests?

Only the San Carlos brewery: 2000 standing or 1400 banquet across 30,000 sq ft, with free on-site parking. The San Rafael brewery tops out at 70.

Are winery and brewery venues good for holiday parties?

Winery and brewery venues work for Bay Area holiday parties if the closing time fits: a 6:00 PM party booked for 4 hours needs a room open until 10:00 PM or later. The Berkeley natural light winery lists 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM and the Livermore winery 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM, both every day. The San Carlos winery notes that event rates and minimums are higher in December. The San Francisco winery closes at 9:00 PM Monday to Saturday and 6:00 PM Sunday, so it suits an early reception.

What does the room alone cost for a 4 hour event?

Example estimates for a 4 hour booking, room only, before food, drinks, tax, fees and gratuity:

  • San Rafael brewery: 4 x $100.00 = $400.00
  • Livermore winery: 4 x $175.00 = $700.00
  • Berkeley, 1,400 sq ft winery: $200.00 + (4 x $150.00) = $800.00
  • Berkeley, natural light winery: $400.00 + (4 x $150.00) = $1,000.00
  • San Carlos brewery: 4 x $580.00 = $2,320.00
  • San Carlos winery: 4 x $1000.00 = $4,000.00
  • San Francisco winery: 4 x $1750.00 = $7,000.00

The San Francisco figure also covers drinks and catering services. For fees to ask about, see the venue hidden fees checklist.

How we chose these seven venues

We started from nine EIM winery, brewery or wine bar listings. One failed verification (its URL did not match its canonical page), and a Santa Cruz wine bar is outside the Bay Area. The other seven were judged on capacity by layout, listed price, minimum booking, parking and posted hours.

Planning tips for a winery or brewery event

  • Plan on the banquet number for a sit-down meal. Seated capacity is half the standing figure at the San Francisco winery.
  • Put parking in the invite. Both Berkeley wineries rely on street parking (the 1,400 sq ft winery adds one on-site ADA space).

For a guided tasting instead of a room, see our food and drink tasting team building guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the venue rental the whole cost of a winery or brewery event?

Usually not. Plan food, wine or beer, bar staff, decor and extra AV as separate lines unless the listing includes them (see the wine service answer above), then add tax, fees and gratuity. Ask each host for a written quote that lists what the hourly rate covers.

Do Bay Area winery venues let you bring outside wine or beer?

Three restrict it: the San Carlos winery lists outside alcohol as not allowed, the Livermore winery serves only its own wine and spirits (renters may bring beer or hard seltzer in bottles or cans), and the San Rafael brewery allows no outside alcohol. The San Francisco winery lists its alcohol policy as venue provides alcohol, and the 1,400 sq ft Berkeley winery allows beer but no hard liquor. The San Carlos brewery and the Berkeley natural light winery do not state a policy, so ask the host in writing before you plan around your own bottles or kegs. Also ask whether a licensed bartender or a per-bottle or per-keg fee is required.

Can a small team of 15 to 25 book one of these venues?

Yes. Every listing starts at 1 guest. For a small group, cost is the real filter: the San Rafael brewery at $100.00/hour and the Livermore winery at $175.00/hour carry the lowest hourly rates. See the 4 hour cost table above for room-only totals.

Which of these venues have the most forgiving cancellation terms?

The San Rafael brewery and the 1,400 sq ft Berkeley winery are Flexible (up to 7 days before). The San Francisco winery, San Carlos brewery, Livermore winery and Berkeley natural light winery are Strict (up to 30 days before). The San Carlos winery is Super Strict (up to 60 days before).

Is a winery a good venue for a client event?

Yes, since the barrels, brick and bar do much of the decorating, but check seated capacity, parking and accessibility first. The San Francisco winery, the San Carlos brewery and the Livermore winery list free on-site parking, and six of the seven listings mark the venue as wheelchair accessible; the San Carlos winery lists ground floor access.
