EIM earns a fee when you book through us. The five kitchens below are current Events in Minutes listings, checked against each live listing on September 25, 2026.

This guide is for teams with their own plan for the food: a hired chef, a caterer or a cook-off your team runs. For an instructor who brings recipes and ingredients, see our guide to cooking classes for team building in San Francisco instead.

Which San Francisco venues have a kitchen you can rent for a group event?

Four San Francisco venues on EIM have a kitchen you can rent for a group event (three in the Mission District, one in Dogpatch); the fifth is in Oakland. Four are commercial kitchens that list tables and chairs; the exception, the Historic Victorian Kitchen Event Space, is a kitchen event space inside a restored 1870 Queen Anne Victorian home. For rooms without a full kitchen, browse all event venues in San Francisco.

What does a kitchen venue cost per hour?

A Bay Area kitchen venue on EIM costs $300.00/hour or $350.00/hour at the two hourly-only listings; the other three charge a one-time fee plus an hourly rate, from $300.00 + $350.00/hour to $600.00 + $500.00/hour.

Room cost at each kitchen's shortest booking (example estimates, before tax, fees and gratuity):

  • Historic Victorian Kitchen Event Space: $300.00/hour x 6 hours = $1,800.00.
  • Commercial Kitchen in Dogpatch: $400.00 + ($400.00/hour x 4 hours) = $2,000.00.
  • Commercial Kitchen with High Ceilings: $350.00/hour x 6 hours = $2,100.00.
  • Private Commercial Kitchen in Paradise Park, Oakland: $300.00 + ($350.00/hour x 6 hours) = $2,400.00.
  • Private Commercial Kitchen in the Mission: $600.00 + ($500.00/hour x 5 hours) = $3,100.00.

Can you bring your own chef?

Yes: the four San Francisco and Oakland commercial kitchens on EIM each list "full kitchen access for catering preparation", the setup a hired chef or caterer needs. None of the five states a rule about outside chefs, so name yours in the booking request and ask whether they must show proof of insurance.

Two listings bring food options of their own: the Victorian lists catering services, and the Private Commercial Kitchen in the Mission has its cooking challenge add-on. Ask what those include before booking an outside chef.

What kitchen equipment is included?

Four of the five Bay Area kitchen venues on EIM (the Mission, Dogpatch and Oakland commercial kitchens) list a full commercial kitchen among their inclusions; the Historic Victorian Kitchen Event Space lists a kitchen. The Dogpatch listing is the most specific about equipment: refrigeration, a dishwasher and an ice machine. In Oakland, a dishwasher appears as an add-on marked "Inquire".

No listing gives a burner, oven or smallwares count, so ask the host how many burners and ovens you can use, how much fridge space is free, which pots and knives are supplied, and who washes up.

How many cooks can work at once?

The Bay Area kitchens on EIM cap guests at 24 to 75 across 800 to 3,000 sq ft, but none lists a cook-station count, so plan from floor area: Dogpatch (3,000 sq ft) fits the largest cooking team, and Paradise Park in Oakland (800 sq ft) the smallest. Ask the host how many work stations fit and whether a hired chef and their staff count toward the guest cap.

How we chose these five kitchens

We reviewed eight candidate Bay Area venue listings on EIM and kept the five that are kitchens; the other three were photo and dance studios. We compared price type, booking length, capacity, square footage, listed equipment, accessibility and cancellation policy, checked against each live listing on September 25, 2026.

Planning tips for a kitchen venue event

  • Book more than the cooking. Add at least an hour on each side for deliveries, setup and cleanup.
  • Send the menu and allergy list with the request. The host can flag missing equipment.
  • Check load-in. The High Ceilings, Paradise Park and Private Mission kitchens list ground-level access; Dogpatch lists a freight elevator.
  • Request dates early. As general advice, ask four to six weeks ahead for a weekday team event, and earlier for November and December.

Before you sign, run the quote through our event venue hidden fees checklist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I rent a commercial kitchen in San Francisco for just a few hours?

Only for 4 hours or more on these listings (the minimum is 4 to 6 hours depending on the kitchen), and deliveries, setup and washing up all happen on the clock. A 2-hour cook-off with a meal afterward fills most of a 4-hour booking once you count prep and cleanup.

Is renting a kitchen cheaper than booking a cooking class?

It depends on group size. A kitchen here is billed by the hour (plus a one-time fee at three of the five), so the room costs the same for 10 or 20 cooks, while a class is usually priced per person and includes the instructor and ingredients. Price both for your headcount; our corporate cooking class cost comparison covers the class side.

Which kitchen works for a group of 50 or more?

Only the Dogpatch commercial kitchen, which lists up to 75 guests standing and 52 at a banquet across 3,000 sq ft; the other four top out at 24 to 40 guests. For a larger group, split into two cooking rounds and seat everyone together for the meal.

Can we bring our own wine to a kitchen event?

The listings say little about alcohol. The Victorian kitchen lists "Shots Permitted" among its inclusions, and the Private Commercial Kitchen in the Mission has a built-in bar. None of the five spells out a corkage or outside-alcohol policy, so ask the host, and check whether a licensed bartender is required for a company group.
